T-Shirt Transformation

Marbles Rings

Repurpose an old T-Shirt in a whole new way – cut, snip and roll the fabric into a yarn ball that’s ready to roll into a new craft.

What You Need:

  • Old T-shirt
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pencil

What You Do:

  1. Lay the T-shirt flat with sleeves to the right and bottom of the shirt to the left. Cut off the bottom hem and cut a straight line from armpit to armpit. Now you have a tube of fabric.
  2. Along the bottom, measure one inch from the left edge and draw a dot. Repeat at the top about one inch below the edge. Draw a line to connect the dots. Repeat this step from left to right so there are one-inch vertical strips across the width of the fabric, leaving about an inch at the top.
  3. Cut along each line starting from the bottom and remember to stop one inch from the top.
  4. After you’ve cut all the strips, pick up the fabric at the top edge and lay flat so there isn’t a fold in the fabric.
  5. Draw lines connecting the cuts between the strips in a diagonal pattern. Cut along the lines. The ends will connect to the edge of the fabric.
  6. Now your fabric is one continuous strip and read to roll into a yarn ball. Wrap the end of the yarn around your fingers until it starts to form a ball. Slide the yarn off and wrap the remaining yarn around the ball, turning as you wrap to make sure it rolls into an even shape.
