About Us

Marbles is a vibrant and growing nonprofit children’s museum in the heart of downtown Raleigh, with a mission to spark imagination, discovery and learning through play. Marbles offers hands-on, minds-on exhibits, creative programs, larger-than-life movies on NC’s only giant screen 3D IMAX, plus an on-campus family café and museum store.
 

Job Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Help set-up and break down kitchen for service
  • Be an expert on the café menu including information on ingredients and allergens
  • Prepare multiple menu orders in a timely manner
  • Understand and adhere to safety and sanitation standards
  • Provide friendly professional service in a fast-paced, high-energy work environment
  • Take initiative and participate in problem solving and positive communications
  • Serv-Safe certified is a plus

Marbles Café operates regular lunch service 7 days a week, with minimal hours after 5pm for special events. This position is 20 hours per week, with availability for shifts between 9am – 4pm on both weekdays and weekends.

As Director of Play Programs you will work collaboratively to lead the team responsible for the planning and playful delivery of museum programs, camps, classes, family events, school programs, and birthdays.

About Us

Marbles is a vibrant and growing nonprofit children’s museum and IMAX Theatre in downtown Raleigh, NC. We serve a diverse population of families, school groups and community organizations with dozens of themed exhibits, programs, summer camps, IMAX educational and feature films and special events year-round. Museum programs and exhibits are designed for children 10-and-under.

We believe in play as a foundation for academic success and emotional well-being, as a way to strengthen families and as a tool to build community. We believe strongly in our responsibility to make our unique museum experience available and accessible to ALL children.

Marbles has grown steadily since opening in 2007, now serving more than 650,000 guests annually. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead a creative team to develop and deliver high-impact, mission-aligned programs connected to Marbles five core initiatives: Ready Set Learn, Be Healthy Be Active, Create Innovate, Explore Experiment, and Connect.
  • Share and build knowledge across the team about the importance of play, children’s ages and stages of development, effective strategies for facilitated learning through child-led play, and engaging caregivers in play.
  • Coach teammates in collaboratively managing and leading play projects.
  • Engage in and model playful, impactful interactions with children and families and coach teammates and volunteers to engage in memorable play moments with guests.

Experience and Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Five to 10 years experience in education or early childhood, with demonstrated success in creating and leading informal, play-based learning experiences
  • Established content knowledge in child development and a willingness to share that knowledge in a playful, accessible manner to a variety of audiences
  • Leadership experience and proven excellence in building capacity and cohesion of a highly performing team

Marbles is hiring a full-time Facilities Coordinator to help oversee a wide range of facilities and construction projects as we expand to serve our ever-growing community. Working closely with members of Team Marbles, our architects, engineers, designers and other partners, this position is responsible for keeping a myriad of projects and initiatives – small and large –on track, on budget, and high quality.

Skill Requirements

  • Proven work experience in facilities and/or construction project management
  • Working knowledge of building trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, building automation, and general skills
  • Familiarity with reading architectural blueprints and specifications and familiarity with building codes and safety protocols
  • Hands-on experience performing general building repair and maintenance

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinates renovation, new construction, and space use projects
  • Oversees building and grounds maintenance, in conjunction with our Wake County landlord
  • Provides facility-related coordination with housekeeping, security, and the landlord’s general services division
  • Responsible for certain facilities-related procurement, contract management, and budgeting
  • Supports the organization’s safety initiatives via the Emergency Response Team

Personal Characteristics

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree, with a background in project management a plus
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, with an attention to detail and quality control

As a Guest Service Host you will interact with Marbles guests in our hands-on exhibits and in a variety of hospitality roles from welcoming field trips to ticketing and point-of-sale. Rotating Host Roles

Marbles IMAX
Think you need to be famous to work in show business? When serving as a Theater Host you will be part of something big by working at MarblesIMAX! Not only will you promoting your favorite on-screen stars, but as a Theater Host you will spend your day interacting with kids and adults, encouraging them to imagine, discover and learn through stunning cinema on NC’s only 3D giant screen.

Museum Exhibits
At Marbles, play is serious business!  When serving as an Exhibit Host, you will help kids imagine, discover and learn by engaging and supporting hands-on play experiences.  Our museum exhibits feature endless opportunities for children to use their imagination - exploring through play what it’s like to be a farmer, a pirate, creating art or designing an outfit, learning how energy is transferred or scoring the winning goal in the hockey rink. It’s your job to jump in and join the play!

Birthday Parties
You are the life of the party as a Birthday Host at Marbles.  When serving as a Birthday Host you help kids celebrate their favorite day of the year! Birthday Hosts facilitate playful party experiences and go the extra mile to make a child’s day special. 

Museum Store
So many toys, so little time. Marbles Corner Store carries a unique selection of toys, games and gifts for all ages. When serving as a Corner Store Host you will create a fun and playful atmosphere that inspires our guests to take a piece of the play home with them!  Cash handling and sales experience are a plus.

Café
Be the presto to our pesto.  When serving as a Café Host you will play a critical role in a family’s day at Marbles, providing exceptional and efficient service and cleanliness in an upbeat and colorful café environment.

Welcome Center
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.  When serving as a Welcome Center Host, you are the first face for our guests, whether arriving as a family or a school group.  You will stay in the loop on all happenings at Marbles and be able to answer any questions during the check-in process. This role in your rotation will keep you on your toes, so quick decision-making skills, an energetic personality and cash handling skills are a must.

Availability

This position requires a flexible schedule, three to four available days per week, including weekend availability. Regular scheduled hours consist of 18 – 25 hours per week.  This position is year-round.
