Marbles Family STEM Club

Are you curious? Do you like to experiment? Enjoy building and making things? Like to play around with science? Join the Marbles Family STEM Club presented by Allscripts. 

Marbles Family STEM Club is a program for third graders and their families who are interested in science, technology, engineering and math and who are curious about learning more through play and tinkering. Participants take part in monthly hands-on science learning and special events at Marbles and in the community. Each event includes lunch, hands-on STEM learning and museum play.

Rising Wake County third graders

FREE. Participants and family members may attend all program events at no cost. Thank you to Allscripts for making this program possible.

PROGRAM participants agree to:

  1. Attend monthly Marbles Family STEM Club events at the museum and in the community. Attendance at 6 events is required and we'd love to see you at more!

  2. Attend with at least one adult family member at each event, but all immediate household members are welcome!

How to Apply 

Applications accepted May 1 - June 30. Two recommendations are also required, one from a teacher and one from another non-family member who knows the child well. Priority will be given to students from the following schools:

  • Barwell Road, Beaverdam, Brentwood, Bugg, Creech Road, East Garner, Fox Road, Hodge Road, Lincoln Heights, Lynn Road, Millbrook, Poe, Powell, Rogers Lane, Smith, Southeast Raleigh, Wakelon, Walnut Creek, Wendell, Wilburn and Zebulon.

Twenty-Five (25) participants will be chosen. Applicants will be notified of acceptance via email by July 15.

Meet Team Marbles and other Marbles Family STEM Club participants and their families. Learn more about the program get started on some science fun, and see an IMAX documentary movie.

Marbles Energy Expo in partnership with Wake County Energy Advisory Commission

October 9, 2022, 11:30am-2:30pm

Explore green energy and sustainability and take in an IMAX documentary.

Kids Code

November 19, 2022, 11:30am-2:30pm

Explore coding and computer science through hands-on activities.

Gingerbread Engineering

December 3, 2022, 11:30am-2:30pm

Engineer your own gingerbread house, meet some engineers, and do some playful engineering of your own.

Family Science Olympiad

January 7, 2023, 11:30am-2:30pm

Grab your family for a friendly competition in the sport of science! Build rockets and pasta bridges. Investigate forensics, explore meteorology and get curious about animal adaptations. In partnership with the North Carolina Science Olympiad.

STEM Field Trip

Let's take STEM on the road and meet up in the community for hands-on learning and exploring.

Reptiles and Amphibians Day at Natural Sciences

March 11, 2023, 11:30am-2:30pm

Meet up at Marbles and explore reptiles and amphibians then walk to Natural Sciences to meet some in person.

Earth Day at Marbles

April 22, 2023, 11:30am-2:30pm

Learn about ways to care for our environment and watch an IMAX documentary about our beautiful planet.

Family STEM Club Celebration

May 6, 2023, 11:30am-2:30pm

Finish off a year of family science fun and new friends with a celebration. Food, fun, and more science!
