Volunteer Opportunities

Two categories of volunteer jobs are available – I. Working with Children and II. Working Behind the Scenes.

I. Working with Children

(volunteers working with children must be 16 or older and submit to a background check)

Gallery Hosts
Assist visitors in the exhibits, enliven their experience and help keep things neat and tidy.

Gallery Host shifts available:

Tuesday – Friday 9:30am – 12:30pm
Saturday (2 shifts available) 9:30am – 12:30pm / 12:30-3:30 pm
Sunday 12:30-3:30 pm

Greeters
Greet guests with a warm smile and friendly "hello!" and assist visitors with general questions.

Greeter shifts available:

Tuesday – Friday (2 shifts available) 9:30am – 1:00pm / 12:00-3:30 pm
Saturday (2 shifts available) 9:30am-12:30pm / 12:30-3:30pm
Sunday 12:30-3:30pm

Group hosts assist teachers and chaperones to ensure a fun, timely and worry-free field trip. Assist in greeting, tracking and communicating with assigned group(s) while they explore the museum. Volunteers must be 18 or older and submit to a background check.

First Fridays Kids Camp Play Partner
Assist in programming and facilitate open play for our monthly kids' night out! All Play Partners must be 16 or older. Kids ages 13-15 may volunteer with an adult guardian. All volunteers 16 and older must submit to a background check. Volunteer shifts available the First Friday of each month, 5:00pm-9:00pm

Museum Educator
Lead or assist with the museum's hands-on daily activities and special programs, including Girl Scout and Cub Scout activity evenings and birthday parties. Internships available.

Gallery Guru
Firefighters, doctors, mail carriers, fishermen, farmers, train conductors, actors, oceanographers, pirates, travel agents, journalists, builders, fashion designers, engineers, architects, gardeners, nutritionists, bankers, librarians, teachers and more! Lead programming related to your expertise within museum exhibits to enhance children’s learning experience. IMMEDIATE need for gardeners, horticulturalists and fitness/nutrition experts.

Marbles Mascot and Mascot Handler
Perform at museum and community events as one of our four Marbles Mascots (Sporty Marble, Brainy Marble, Rockin’ Marble and Greenie Marble.) Must be at least 5 feet, 5 inches tall to appropriately fit in the costume. Handlers assist Mascots in putting on the costume, crowd control and break schedule.

II. Working Behind the Scenes

Internships and Work Study
Marbles Kids Museum offers college internships and work study positions for various majors including Education, Graphics and Tourism to name a few. To find out more call the volunteer coordinator at 919.857.1025 or email to volunteer@marbleskidsmuseum.org.

Exhibit Repair Assistant
Help repair and maintain existing exhibits and assist with fabrication of exhibit components. Basic knowledge of shop tools and experience with building and repairs required.

Visual Merchandiser in The Corner Store
Design and create displays using themes that relate to seasons, programs and merchandise promotions. Previous display design experience is helpful.

The Corner Store Clerks
Assist customers with purchases, operate cash register and assist with merchandising and inventory. Previous customer service experience preferred.

Process membership applications, prepare renewal reminders and assist with membership marketing.

Special Events/Community Relations Assistant (must be 16 or older)
Assist with special events like Family Fun Nights, gallery openings, community presence events and fundraisers, provide general clerical support for administrative staff and work with special event committees

Junior Marbles (youth ages 12 - 17)
Come on Friday afternoons and during summer break to help out behind the scenes with activity prep work and administrative needs. Parents can drop off their teens for a fun and productive afternoon that helps the museum run smoothly. All volunteers 16 and older must submit to a background check.

Volunteer As a Group
Double your fun; volunteer as group! Marbles often has volunteer opportunities for groups to volunteer together. Help as Play Partners at a First Fridays Kids Camp or assist with a special event.
